Books and territory / Cooking and plants
The cooking art in Piedmont is very prosperous also because of the variety of typical products offered by the land: wine, truffles, hazelnuts, meat, cheese, these are just few of the ingredients found in the 2000 recipes of Vialardi’s Trattato di cucina.
Cooking is an ancient art. The XIX century is the time of the great French cuisine by Marie-Antoine Carême and the work by Vialardi becomes the Italian benchmark for cooking, anticipating the famous book La scienza in cucina e l’Arte di mangiar bene by Artusi, published in 1891.
The aromatic plants, the officinal herbs and the essences are typical elements of the land too; the books in the library virtually bring the visitor to them through lithographies and descriptions. They are plants and flowers that can be found in the beautiful parks and gardens – such as the “Peony Garden”- of Racconigi Castle.
