Aneddoti della vita di Vittorio Emanuele
Author:
Publication date:
Samuele Ghiron was a journalist and associate of many magazines such as Il Fischietto, the satirical review founded in Turin during the 1850s. Ghiron creates a collection of short anecdotes to celebrate the king of Sardinia and first king of Italy Victor Emmanuel II’s virtues; he is described as a brave and democratic man, one of the strongest supporters of the national unity project. In the Aneddoti it is said the King had relations, even friendship, with some protagonists of the Italian unification movement, like Giuseppe Garibaldi, Giuseppe Mazzini, Camillo Benso count of Cavour and Massimo d’Azeglio.
Un giorno venne consegnata al Re una lettera,
che era a lui inviata con questo indirizzo:
«Al primo cavaliere d’ Italia.» Vittorio Emanuele,
con gentile pensiero, la mandò a chi era
certo fra i primi cavalieri, a Massimo D’Azeglio.
