Les Grisettes

Author:

Henry Monnier

Publication date:

1829

Grisettes used to mean modest robes, made with cheap grey clothing. The meaning of the word extended to indicate all those young ladies of humble origins, often laborers or dressmakers, who consented to be easily courted. The book gathers a series of illustrations about the Grisettes’ typical life, from the small house parties, to the promenades in the countryside, were the women young or older.
