Edme-Jean Pigal is a well-known painter and lithographer of the 1800s. This volume contains 50 colorized lithographies showing common people and everyday grotesques and realistic episodes. Every image has its own caption. It has been written about the author: “From the 1820s until the end of the 1830s, Pigal created many lithographies mocking the customs of his time and the social classes, making fun of the bourgeois hypocrisy and the working class “vulgarity”. His favorite subjects were the kids in the streets of Paris, the servants, the coachmen, the concierges and the old men.
